Cotswold Way Accommodation

Self Catering & Camping accommodation on the Cotswold Way

Opting for a self catering holiday along the Cotswold Way is ideal for families looking for the flexibility to enjoy a break at their own pace. The atmosphere of the Cotswolds is unique, offering a very different experience to other parts of the country and the hustle and crowds of coastal resorts.

Available properties:

With easy access to the M5 from many points along the escarpment, choosing cottage accommodation as a base for your holiday on the Cotswold Way does not restrict access to a very wide area and numerous family attractions ranging from farms and museums to canals and caves.

The essence of a Cotswolds self-catering holiday is the outdoors and there is no end of opportunity to explore and experience the best of the English countryside in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Even walking a short section of the Cotswold Way National Trail can provide the full range of scenery, including open fields, deep, sheltered coombes, high downs and promontories and dense, unspoiled deciduous woodland.

Travel can be accomplished on foot, horseback, bike or even, if you venture to Gloucester, by Ski! Exploration by car can take you to some fantastic picnic locations (such as the car park at Eastington/Frocester overlooking the Severn estuary). The advantage here is flexibility as self-catering accommodation allows you to come and go as you please, returning late after a meal out for example.

At the southern end of the Cotswold Way, families will find plenty of indoor entertainment should they want a change or need to occupy the little ones during rain! Bristol offers The Exploratory and the SS Great Britain in addition to its theatres and cinemas and The Mall provides an indoor location for some retail therapy.

Bath offers the Roman Baths and numerous museums and not too far away, the magical family attraction of Wookey Hole Caves with an indoor adventure play area.

Further north, near Cirencester, the Roman connection can be further explored at the newly refurbished Corinium Museum where children are well catered for and can learn about all aspects of Roman life. At Prinknash Abbey, visitors can see a full reconstruction of the famous Woodchester Pavement as well as other attractions at this working abbey.

Of course, one of the options with self-catering cottage accommodation is to simply relax in the surroundings of your holiday home for a day! Relaxation is an important ingredient of any holiday and the Cotswolds provides an excellent place to do it. Many of the self-catering holiday cottages listed along the Cotswold Way National Trail have patios and gardens and are in the sort of locality which deserves to be enjoyed at leisure.
